Our rooms are basic but very clean and efficient. We have put forth every effort to provide you with what you need, yet without excessive furnishings and decorations.
We try our best to be mindful of nature. Our bed sheets, for example, are made of local, non-bleached cotton, and we are in the process of installing solar energy. Also, rather than contribute to the growing mountain of plastic bottles in India, we provide you with safe drinking water at no extra charge throughout your stay.
The First Place is ideal for people who prefer solitude and calm. There is no “noise” other than the songs of birds and the sound of waves from the Indian Ocean, and, of course, the Imam's call from the neighbouring mosque.
Our garden is a shady oasis where you can spend your days reading or simply relaxing.
All our guest rooms are outfitted with a writing desk, reading lamps, shelves for books and clothing, hangers, a mirror, and several electrical outlets (a rarity in many guest houses in India). All of our bathrooms have been newly renovated.
The First Place is run jointly by Indian and Swedish people who had always wished to find a place like this for themselves . The degree of personal service is very high, and as our guests we consider you part of the family. If you ever wish to prepare your own food, you are welcome to access the kitchen. We think that anyone who enjoys being in a relaxing atmosphere with all the essentials found in tourist areas, but located off the beaten track, would feel comfortable here.
In the slow season (May to October), The First Place is used by local organizations whose work for the development of Kerala we support.
